Steel Rule Die Construction

A steel rule die is a sheet of wood (typically 18mm plywood) with steel cutting rules and scoring rules bent to the required cutting and scoring pattern and inserted into routed channels in the plywood base. The cutting rules have sharpened edges that cut through the board; the scoring rules have blunted edges that crease the board for fold lines. The die also includes ejection material (rubber foam) that pushes the cut board away from the cutting rules after each press stroke, allowing the board to be removed and the next sheet positioned. Die Cutting Process Options
